Recently I have seen/heard two different people say that they are waiting until they are 80 to make their “bucket list”. My question to both was the same. “What good is the list if you wait until you are too old to do what’s on it?” The whole point of the list is to be able to do the great things you’ve dreamt about. If you wait too long, they could well remain nothing but dreams. You might even miss the opportunity to live long enough to try. What are you waiting for?
“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not Much.” ~ Jim Rohn
I recently remade my list. Sometimes it’s nice to have goals. If you had one before and it’s been set aside, maybe it needs some new things on it – because desires, interests, and directions in life change. Don’t hinder yourself by limiting what you write down with the thinking that you have to be “realistic”. This is about what you want to do. Once you have things on paper, it’s easier to consider how to achieve those goals. Sometimes they have to be modified, it’s true, but at least give yourself the gift of being able to dream a little. Having a bucket list does not mean you are expecting a short life. It does mean you accept that your life is finite on this planet. Free yourself to reach for the things you have always wanted. You never know what opportunities may present.
Large or small, these goals are like anything else. If they are important to you, make a decision to fulfill it. Give yourself a purpose that is rooted in your passions. There is your food for thought for the night.
